Hi Jonathan – If you don’t want to manage your money, a robo-advisor like Betterment will be a good choice. But they don’t offer custodial IRAs. You might want to open an IRA with a bank or credit union, then roll it over to Betterment when you turn 18 and can open your own account.

I don’t anticipate making over 4,000 a year so I won’t have taxes on my income besides social security and medicare. I am looking into Roth IRAs because I like to think about my future and money compounding, but I simply cannot find that many resources online.

Right now, my criteria is as follows:
Do-it-for-me IRA: I DO NOT WANT TO MANAGE THE IRA.
Custodial IRA: I am 16.
Less than $1000 minimum: I plan on putting upwards of 50% of my money earned into the IRA, but I haven’t earned enough yet, but I do want to start ASAP.
No hidden fees or fees that could hinder growth of worth: I get that there are fees, but some IRAs are weird and if you don’t invest enough, your fees will cancel out your growth.

Let me know if I’ve said something entirely wrong that needs to be corrected. I just want some advice and maybe you could point me in the direction of a few IRAs to look at. Thank you!
